Information for Parents or Guardians
Here you can find information over Kappa Sigma, and find out how your son will grow to become a better man. Joining our Fraternity is a great way to learn crucial life skills outside of the classroom. We believe in positively impacting the community while ensuring our members experience personal, academic, and professional growth. Below you will find more information over our pillars of Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service.
We encourage brothers to start creating and maintaining close relationships with their brothers. But most importantly we constantly curate an environment of family. Any brother of the Kappa Sigma fraternity can tell you how much we emphasize this by hosting various brother bonding events throughout the school year.
Kappa Sigma holds a high appreciation for academics by encouraging high academic standards. We utilize our scholarship committee in order to make sure our brothers are keeping their grades on the right track. We conduct grade checks regularly and then determine required study hours for a brother based on his current GPA. School comes first and we emphasize that.
We are constantly dedicated to serving the Washburn and Topeka community and giving back to those who need it the most.
Kappa sigma allows its brothers to hold many different leaderships positions within our many committees where they are closely monitored by older and experienced brothers. These positions help develop leadership by encouraging active participation within the fraternity. Outside of Kappa Sigma, we encourage brothers to be involved in other organizations like; Washburn Student Government Association, YoungLife, Campus Activities Board, InterFraternal Council, and others.
What you should also know about Kappa Sigma at Washburn University.
All fraternities and sororities have their own structure for dues, and this can vary a great deal from chapter to chapter. Dues help Greek life pay for socials, insurance, composites, apparel, alumni functions, conferences, and recruitment. The Gamma-Nu Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has the lowest dues at Washburn University. We are more than willing and happy to work out a payment plan for any member or pledge.
ALL FORMS OF HAZING AND ANY MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DISCOMFORT ARE NOT ALLOWED BY ANY CHAPTER OF THE KAPPA SIGMA FRATERNITY. WASHBURN UNIVERSITY IS ALSO A NO HAZING CAMPUS. ANY ATTEMPT TO HAZE WILL BE FOLLOWED BY IMMEDIATE DISCIPLINARY AND SOMETIMES LEGAL ACTION.
